What I Believe

My methods and beliefs have changed numerous times over the last 15 years as I’ve experimented with all varieties of methods and “techniques.” I have learned the good and the bad from high frequency and low frequency training, linear progression, maxing out day in and day out, squatting every day, ass to grass squats, parallel squats, brush vs bang the bar, and so on. You name it, I have most likely done it or some variation of it, and not just done it but wholeheartedly believed in said training method or technique. Any suggestion I have made to others comes from a place of experience, especially when recommending or dissuading someone from doing something in particular. If I have not done it I would give it a go myself so I can formulate an opinion.

Currently I believe the most important reps in training are snatches, cleans, and jerks. The jerk is the most important lift because most lifters have a poor success ratio of jerks in competition, especially with third attempts. Quality of lifting is more important than quantity (reps, sets, weight, etcetera). Squats, pulls, and other ancillary lifts should be an afterthought with a focus on speed. I am sure there are more things to mention but that will be all for now.
